Dr. R. C. Sproul – A Man Who Left a Legacy.

Death is not the end. Death is the beginning. On December 14th, 2017 a man who God used to impact me for half of my life went home.

Dr. R. C. Sproul was a man who truly left a legacy. He is being remembered for how God used him in people’s lives.

God used Dr. Sproul in my life in many ways throughout the years. He used him to explain the gospel to me every Sunday. He showed me what a church really looks like. A church is a family. It’s made up of sinful, fallen people who truly love and care about each other. They strive to lift each other up in the Lord. He showed me that abortion is an abomination in God’s eyes. He wasn’t afraid to stand up for what he believed in. He showed me what courage looks like.

As I’m writing this, I’m listening to Highland Hymn from Dr. Sproul’s first C.D. of hymns and it’s incredible. I am rejoicing that Dr. Sproul is meeting his Lord face to face. He’s experiencing something that he has longed for his entire life. He has no more pain. He has no more breathing problems. His legs work perfectly. He can run. He can jump. He doesn’t have to worry about getting sick. He has no more tears. No more sorrow. He has true joy. He is praising God in His presence!

God used Dr. Sproul to show me to not be afraid of death. He taught me to long for it. Because to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. He showed me what it means to have a true, childlike faith in God. He never wavered in his trust. He held onto his Lord’s promises because he knew they are true.

God used Dr. Sproul to show me what a godly, loving, lasting marriage looks like. He showed me what it means to truly love your spouse. You could see the love he had for his wife every time he looked at her.

He showed me that you can take simple poems and turn them into the most amazing music with deep meaning. His hymns are my absolute favorite songs. They display the truths that he knew with his very being. The Secret Place of God Most High is the dwelling place where angels cry and that is where our praises will forever ring. It is a place of refuge and fortress. There is no safer place for men of dust. God used his hymns to comfort me through many things. They show the anguish that Jesus had on His heavy cross. His cross was weighed down with human sin. He showed the torture that Jesus went through. Mocked, scourged, with thorns for a crown.

God used Dr. Sproul to show me the Joy of the Lord. He was always smiling and happy. He was a man who had true peace that can only come from a true faith in God. He loved listening to the choir at church. I loved watching his face while we would sing the anthems. He was always so happy. He looked at the choir with a face of love for the music. He loved worshiping his Maker.

God used Dr. Sproul to show me how Holy God is and how sinful I am. He showed me that to truly understand the grace of God you have to understand just how unworthy you are. You are nothing. You hate God and yet, God chose you. He taught me that I am totally depraved. I can do nothing but sin. He taught me God’s unconditional election. God chose me because He wanted to. Not because of anything I did or will do. He taught me God’s limited atonement, God doesn’t save everyone, because that’s what He chose. He taught me not to question why God doesn’t save everyone, but to question why God chose me. He taught me God’s irresistible grace. I can’t resist God’s saving grace. God is the one who does everything for my salvation. I can do nothing. He taught me the perseverance of the saints. God will never let go of me. I cannot lose my salvation.

God used Dr. Sproul to teach me the importance of the Reformation that happened 500 years ago. He taught me the importance of going to the bible. He taught me that man is fallible and he can’t know everything. He taught me that God is infallible and He knows everything.

God used Dr. Sproul to teach me so many, many things and I will never truly grasp everything he taught, but I am forever grateful for the years I got to sit under his teaching.

Seeing the outpouring of love and support for what God used Dr. Sproul to do in thousands of people’s lives is amazing. I want to leave a legacy like that.

I will never forget the impact that Dr. Sproul left on my life and I look forward to the day when I will join him in heaven praising our Lord face to face.

Soli Deo Gloria,

Heather

It has been amazing to see how God used Dr. Sproul in so many people’s lives. Grateful for the man and the ministry. Although we and many others grieve, we grieve as those who have hope and R.C. has that hope realized as he is now with Christ. Thank you, Heather, for sharing how Dr. Sproul impacted you. Your words, “God used Dr. Sproul to show me to not be afraid of death. He taught me to long for it. Because to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” are particularly a testimony to that!
