“The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.” -William Shakespeare-
This is one of my favorite Shakespeare quotes. God has given everyone a gift. I’m still learning what my gift is. God has blessed me with many gifts. I might not have the prettiest hands, they’re small and wrinkled from years of doing chores. But, they can do many things. They can do calligraphy, they can draw, knit, crochet, write, type, cook, clean, sew, and more. God has also blessed me with a brain and an ability to write. I can’t imagine keeping these gifts for myself. I want to help people. God has blessed me with this
I want to help people. God has blessed me with this innate thirst for helping people reach their full potential. I hate seeing wasted potential. It honestly hurts me when I see people spending hours playing video games or sleeping or just wasting hours upon hours of time on frivolous things. My brain just runs through all the possibilities that that person could be doing with their time. God has only given us one life. It is our responsibility to make the most of it.
Romans 14:12 “So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.”
One day, Jesus will return and every human being alive or dead, will have to give an account to God of everything they have done.
1 Corinthians 3:12-14 “Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw- each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will recice a reward.”
God will test the work that we do with our lives. Is your work gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw? Do you need to change what you’re working on?
“What a wonderful thought it is that some of the best days of our lives haven’t happened yet.” -Anonymous-
This thought makes me smile. I don’t know what I would consider the best day of my life. I’ve had many great days and many not so great days. But, I’m grateful for all of them. Looking forward to the future and knowing that God has great things in store for me makes me so happy.
One thing that never ceases to amaze me is when I remember the good parts of my hardest days. I remember the conversations with friends where they encouraged me to keep going. I remember the laughter we found in the midst of a hurricane. I remember the feeling of satisfaction of doing hard work after being cooped up during a storm. I don’t remember so many of the bad things. But, I do remember the good in the bad and for that, I will forever be grateful.
I challenge you to find something good that came out of something bad that you went through recently.
“My relationship with God is my number one focus. I know that if I take care of that, God will take care of everything else.” -Anonymous-
This quote is my life. I cherish my relationship with God above all other relationships. If something is coming between me and God then I need to cut it off. No matter what it is. I know that if I trust in God for everything that He will take care of everything.
Hurricane Irma recently went through Florida. (I’m actually doing a whole post on Irma and it will be up soon!) During the storm, I held onto the promise of God that is found in Psalm 91
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a sheild and buckler. You will not fret the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor destruction that wastes at noonday.
A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only look with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked.
Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place – the Most High, who is my refuge – no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent.
For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the adder; the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot.
Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.
“No one gets tired of loving. You just get tired of waiting, assuming, hearing lies, apologies, and hurting.” -Anonymous-
This is so true. Love is something you can’t fall out of. Love is a commitment. I love many people, not romantically, but practically. I love my friends and family and I strive to love everyone. But, it is hard. God has given us the greatest example of love. Humans in our natural state hate God. We are at enmity with Him. But, He so loved us that He sent His ONLY Son to die for us. Could you kill your son to save the life of someone who hates you? God did that. God’s love is so awesome it is beyond our finite comprehension. God never stops loving us. He never gets tired of it. He doesn’t get tired of hearing lies, apologies, or listening to hurting people. God mends our broken pieces. He makes me whole again.
“Your first love isn’t the first person you give your heart to – it’s the first one who breaks it.” -Lang Leav-
This quote tells me that I have never been ‘in love’. I have never had my heart-broken and it seems that in this day and age that’s rare to find in someone my age. I haven’t really been let down by anyone. I’ve learned lessons from people. I’ve learned that no matter what happens, I’m still going to love the people in my life. Even when they hurt me or are busy, I’m not going to stop. God has loved me with an everlasting love and I strive to share that love with everyone around me.
“I love the people who keep a smile when they have every right to break down.” -Anonymous-
This is me. I know many people who have every right to break down. But, they keep going through it all. They truly are my favorite people. I don’t know what everyone is going through. I don’t know everyone’s past. I know that everyone has pages of their lives that most people don’t get to read. I’m very grateful for the people who have let me read those pages. The trust that you have in me means a lot. I broke the trust of someone very close to me recently and it hurts me so much to know that I will probably never be very close to that person again. The memories from that remind me daily that trust is something I have to earn and it’s something I never want to lose from anyone, ever again. I don’t ever want to break another person’s trust. But, I know that I’m human and some day I probably will. I pray that if I do that God will help me to mend the break.
“Be somebody who makes everybody feel like a somebody.” -Anonymous-
This is so hard to do, but it is something that I want to do with my life. I want to make every person I meet feel important.
“You don’t meet people by accident. There’s always a reason. A lesson or a blessing.” -Anonymous-
I have met many people in my life. Some have taught me a lesson. Some have taught me many lessons. Some have blessed me. Some have taught me lessons and blessed me. Some have taught me lessons through blessings. And some have blessed me through lessons.
People are people. We’re all human. We’re all similar. But we’re not the same. Everyone can teach you something. I’m learning to embrace the lessons that I learned from my relationships.
“Don’t judge me by my past. I don’t live there anymore.” -Anonymous-
This quote reminds me to leave others past in the past. I know what some people have been through. I know what a lot of people are going through. I know that everything has changed them and molded them into the people they are today.
People are constantly changing. You can’t change people, but they change themselves. I know everyone has messed up at least once in their life. That doesn’t mean I shouldn’t trust them. I know that people have moved on and I should too. My past has dark times and bright times. It has good times and bad times. It has times where I messed up and times where I conquered. I don’t live in my past though. I am not the same person that I was just 6 months ago. If you’re not happy with who I was 6 months ago, then maybe you should try to learn about who I am now. I believe that people deserve second chances. I don’t want to ever cut someone out of my life completely because I pray that someday we can overcome our differences.
This year, I’ve learned that being bitter is overrated. I’d rather just forgive, learn my lesson, and move on. Being bitter just wastes time and energy. My time and energy that I could use for something more productive.
“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.” -Oprah Winfrey-
This quote is amazing. It reminds me to count my blessings and be grateful for what I have. Because it’s so true. If I focus on what I don’t have, I will never be satisfied. God has blessed me beyond measure and I have no right to be unsatisfied with my blessings. Contentment is a big lesson I’m trying to learn right now.
What is one thing that you have been blessed with recently?
Soli Deo Gloria,
